To ensure that environmental impacts are controlled and minimized and that our objectives & commitments are achieved we have established and will maintain an Environmental Management System (EMS). This system is part of the overall management system for the site and will enable us to provide materials and services to society in a manner which ensures that we meet our environmental obligations.

Since 1999 or thereabouts, there has been a programme of planting at the Quarry in Clashanure, Ovens which has resulted in significant landscaping, particularly around the lake shore. Thousands of mountain ash, spruce, alder, beech and birch have been planted as well as some oak and  willow. A direct benefit is the substantial visual impact and considerable habitat provided for wildlife.

Over the years, many water birds have nested in the dried ponds, shrub and tree belt. It is company policy to encourage this activity, banning shooting on its property and augmenting with rearing of ducks and pheasants occasionally. Clashanure Quarry is, perhaps, unusual in the extent to which wildlife, especially water fowl, have become an integral part of the quarry site.
